Sonoma County, California

County of Sonoma is beginning stages of our efforts to develop a comprehensive racial equity initiative. We are excited to implement our commitment to advance racial equity, diversity and inclusion through introducing and promoting community conditions, institutional policies and practices, and investments, which break down racial barriers and endorse experiences of community support – rather than stigmatization – for all residents seeking assistance or enjoying resources that the County of Sonoma provides.

Sonoma County is the largest (in area) and northernmost of the nine San Francisco Bay Area counties with a population of approximately 500,000. The County’s largest city and county seat is Santa Rosa, CA, which is located on the northern coast of California, approximately 55 miles north of San Francisco. The County of Sonoma is the employer to approximately 4,000 employees in a wide variety of professions including, but not limited to general administration, law enforcement, social work, environmental health, home health and mental health care, building inspection, road maintenance, and parks management. County employees work within twenty-eight departments or agencies of the County.
