City of Gainesville passes motion for institutionally committing to racial equity

This City of Gainesville recently passed a motion committing to racial equity which included the following components:

1) A resolution stating the city's commitment to racial equity that will be a part of our strategic framework
2) A reorganization/realignment of our Office of Equal Opportunity with more of a focus on equity, inclusion and diversity
3) A six month subcommittee to focus on racial equity policy in city of Gainesville government
4) A community wide task force to answer the question “How Can Gainesville Become More Equitable?”.
5) A letter from the mayor to the school board, the county, the chamber of commerce, Santa Fe, UF and UF Health to inform them that we are embarking on this work in earnest and with a sense of urgency.

6) Two additional full time staff dedicated to equity

7) $300,000 budgeted for 2020 and $300,00 for 2021 to support this work
