The Opportunity Atlas, online data interactive from Opportunity Insights and the U.S. Census Bureau, examines how the neighborhoods where children grow up shape their future social and economic opportunities.

The interactive data map is based on U.S. Census data that follows American children into adulthood to understand which childhood neighborhood circumstances lead to rich or poor socioeconomic outcomes.

Users can filter the map by income, incarceration rate, employment criteria, and many other measures. It also allows searching for and zooming into specific neighborhoods or regions.

A brief summarizing key insights accompanies the interactive, in addition to a longer working paper that unpacks the context and methods of the analysis. Finally, the underlying data used to construct the map is also available for download.
