Transportation

Transportation systems have been designed, funded, and operated in ways that have restricted the movement of communities of color, limiting people's access to healthcare, food, employment, and education. New investments in infrastructure and new approaches to transportation planning are providing the opportunity to acknowledge and repair past harms, such as the destruction of many Black neighborhoods caused by the construction of highways, and to consider the racial equity impacts of today's decisions.

GARE network jurisdictions are applying racial equity tools to help them prioritize projects, develop new transit systems, and partner with those most impacted by structural racism to build a vision of safe, accessible, and sustainable mobility that connects communities.
