League of Minnesota Cities

The League of Minnesota Cities (LMC) is a state municipal league, providing effective advocacy, expert analysis, and trusted
guidance for all Minnesota cities. We also provide property/casualty and worker’s compensation insurance for most Minnesota cities. Our vision is that all cities are thriving, taking advantage of new opportunities, and successfully meeting ongoing challenges.

Beginning in 2015 we began paying attention to issues of how city governments impact and are impacted by racial inequality. Our Board of Directors make race equity the focus of their 2016 leadership retreat, and shortly thereafter adopted a race equity plan to guide the work of LMC staff. Most notably we have co-partnered with GARE in both 2016 and 2017 to support cohorts of local governments and state agencies working on race equity action plans and their implementation. About 20 cities and counties have participated. In 2017 LMC itself had a cohort of staff in the cohort and we are just wrapping up adoption of our own race equity action plan that will further guide the internal and external work of LMC. LMC is currently a member of the 2018 Minnesota cohort.Visit their website to learn more about their work.
