The City of New Orleans recently completed a Pay Disparity Study that looked at pay differences across sectors through the lenses of race and gender. Starting with the findings from this study, the City of New Orleans would like to make income equity and job mobility part of its racial equity initiatives. Goals for this would be seeing more people of color moving from the lowest level of the pay scale to higher levels, and to see more departments with people of color in supervisory and director positions. The study was completed in October of 2019, with cooperation from several departments and the City Council. This study supports what we have heard from members of our Equity Team– employees need to see equitable action just as much as other residents.
