In 2018, the California Air Resources Board (CARB) joined CalEPA and its other Boards, Departments, and Offices (BDOs) with four representatives as the Beyond Green team in the Capitol Cohort Pilot Year 1. Through this year of training and collaboration, the Beyond Green team deepened their understanding of racial inequities within their organizations and identified three goals in a Plan of Action for Racial Equity (PARE).
These three goals are 1) Creating a Culture of Racial Equity, 2) Language Accessibility, and 3) Hiring, Promotion, Retention and Recruitment. As the team discussed next steps leading into the Capitol Cohort Pilot Year 2: Implementation, CARB executive leadership decided to create their own team to make a deeper commitment to racial equity in the work we do. As CARB enters into Year 2 as its own team, it brings a new excited diverse group representing the entire department.
