Snohomish County, Washington, Public Utilities District #1

Snohomish County Public Utility District #1, or the “PUD”, was created on November 3,1936, by a majority vote of the people/for the purpose of providing publicly owned electric and water utility service to the people of Snohomish County and Camano Island. The vote to create the PUD was part of the public power movement in the Pacific Northwest.

Snohomish County PUD is the second largest publicly owned utility in Washington. We serve over 350,000 electric customers and about 21,000 water customers. Our service territory covers over 2/200 square miles, including all of Snohomish County and Camano Island.

The PUD is committed to supporting diversity as stated in our 2019 Strategic Initiatives. However, a formal program is not yet in place. The PUD would like to utilize the collective experiences of GARE members as we shape and form our own Diversity and Equity initiative.
