Race Forward Presents...
This year’s presidential election is happening against the backdrop of escalating attacks on racial equity and the communities of color that this work represents.
In 2020, angered and moved by the murder of George Floyd due to police brutality and abuse, people rallied in the streets in support of the Movement for Black Lives. Thousands of organizations committed themselves and their resources to dismantling systemic racism. Today, backlash and pushback against these commitments to racial justice has been quick and horrifying.
Banned books, attacks on critical race theory, the overturning of Roe vs. Wade, the dismantling of Affirmative Action, attacks on gender affirming care and on trans and non-binary folks - all of these interconnected attacks have caused deep harm to communities most impacted by systems of oppression and racism. And yet we know that this is only the tip of the iceberg. The launching of Project 2025 has confirmed an elaborate plan and manual to dismantle policies that seek to advance diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging in a systematic way.
This year’s election, both the outcome and the broader response to that outcome, will deeply impact the racial justice movement. At play are foundational questions for our country, the purpose and values of our institutions, and whose interests will our institutions serve. It will affect our organizing, the deep narratives that shape people’s hearts and minds, and the policies that shape our material conditions, and ultimately our futures.
This webinar will bring together leadersfrom that are at the core of Race Forward’s racial justice work: narrative strategy, institutional change, and movement organizing.
