The GARE MN Racial Equity speaker series is an opportunity to deepen our understanding of racial equity by learning from the work of others in the field. On August 23 from 6 pm – 8pm CST, our topic is “Moving Elected Leadership to Advance Racial Equity.” Leon Andrews, Director, Race, Equity and Leadership (REAL) program of the National League of Cities will be our principal presenter. This event will also include time to strategize and share ideas on how to leverage elected leadership to advance racial equity in our jurisdictions.
The REAL initiative serves to strengthen local leaders’ knowledge and capacity to eliminate racial disparities, heal racial divisions, and build more equitable communities. Through training and online resources, REAL helps NLC members build safe places where people from all racial, ethical and cultural backgrounds thrive socially, economically, academically and physically.
Who should attend?
MN 2017 Introductory and Implementation cohort teams are encouraged to bring delegations that include team members, elected officials and representatives and community partners. GARE member jurisdictions, elected officials, public commission appointees and representatives of community and civic organization partners are also welcome to attend.
