Race Matters: 25 Years Later, with Cornel West (in SF)

April 27, 2018 @ 5:30 pm - 9:00 pm UTC-8

Members Only, Special Event

Join the San Francisco Human Rights Commission (HRC) as we welcome Dr. Cornel West, one of our most provocative contemporary American intellectuals, for the 25th anniversary of his seminal book, Race Matters.

Purchasing tiers are as follows:

  • Pre-Reception 5:30pm – Free (San Francisco Public Library, Main Branch, 100 Larkin St)
  • Race Matters – 25 Years Later, 7pm – The Nourse Theater, 275 Hayes Street ($10)
  • Post-Event Reception – Receive a copy of Dr. West’s book, Race Matters ($25)

Published in 1994, Race Matters remains relevant to our current cultural and political conversation; within that work, Dr. West writes: “The difficult and delicate quest for black identity is integral to any talk about racial equality.” Dr. West, a philosopher and prominent academic, is Professor of the Practice of Public Philosophy at Harvard; he is also Professor Emeritus at Princeton, and has taught previously at the Union Theological Seminary, the University of Paris, and Yale. Dr. West has authored 20 books, and edited a dozen more; he has produced several spoken word albums and is a sought-after guest on television and radio news programs.
