Economic Mobility

Economic mobility strategies that address systemic inequities and close racial equity gaps while improving systems for everyone are essential to racial equity work. From the racial wealth gap, to inequitable jobs and income, to housing and education disparities, improving the material conditions of communities of color is essential for achieving racial equity.

Economic mobility strategies that fail to center race can have the unintended impact of cementing inequities and producing outcomes that harm all lower-income families. By integrating economic mobility and racial equity approaches, practitioners can address the root causes of economic distress and offer systemic interventions that are inclusive of all communities.

GARE participates in and co-facilitates the Melinda and Bill Gates Foundation equitable mobility cohort where our many partners work together to build tools, field-wide strategy, and a new vision for economic mobility that ensures sustainable well-being and equity for all communities in our country.
